One of the critical factors that limit scalability of parallel processing systems is load balancing between Nodes.  If the load is unbalanced, a few Nodes will perform all the work while the rest remain idle.  For complex SQL queries, the characteristics of intermediate data sets are unknown until execution-time, and the resulting data skews can result in highly unbalanced load distribution.  The dbX appliance handles load balancing dynamically at run-time, fully utilizing the power of the hardware accelerator.
