Category: Software/Embedded Tools

Finalist: XDS2000i in-socket development system (XtremeData)

The XDS2000i is an innovative hardware accelerator development environment which combines the computing strengths of Xeon CPUs with tightly coupled FPGA accelerators. The development system replaces one of the motherboard CPUs with XDI’s patented in-socket-accelerator (or ISA), allowing developers to offload timing critical tasks over the front side bus into a massively parallel FPGA logic array. Applications developed and accelerated on this platform are re-configured in system without interrupting CPU execution, and lead to an extremely flexible and efficient means to offload acceleration tasks.

The XDS2000i offers a complete development environment that incorporates the ISA in a dual-socket Xeon desk-side PC. The system runs CentOS Linux and ships pre-installed with a complete set of FPGA development tools from Altera, a reference design for rapid development of end-user applications, and a rich software stack provided by Intel—the QuickAssist Accelerator Abstraction Layer (AAL). The end result is a prototype tool which shortens TTM by eliminating custom board design and protects end-user IP by leveraging the roadmap benefits of Intel’s AAL, Xeon-based systems, and mainstream FPGA technology.
